I received an email this morning from Jesse Taft with information on a new scam to be aware of.
The caller states that they are from Security and Fraud for your credit card and then tells you that they want to verify a purchase on your credit card. They do not ask you for the number of your account, but ask you for the three digit number off the back of the card. I called my VISA credit card company to inquire about this scam. They stated that if you get this call, the “Scammer” may have intercepted enough information on your account to piece together all they need, and with the addition of the 3 digit code and perhaps an expiration date they are able to make charges to your account.
As always, do not give any information to an unsolicited call. Hang up and call the official number on the back of your credit card and let your credit card company know about the call you just received. If you have a cell phone, make a note of the number that the scammer called from and give this information to your credit card company also.
If you do have a cell phone, you can then go to recent calls and block the number so that you will not receive future calls, at least not from the same number.
