Report from Mick Hergert – Another Scam to be aware of

Report from Mick and Donna Hergert

Donna and I received a phone call this a.m. from our oldest grandson who suddenly went to New York to attend a wedding.  While there he rear ended someone, broke his nose, and was issued a DUI.  He had one phone call to make after the emergency room and booking at the police station.  Didn’t want to have us tell his parents. Real fishy.  We got a call 10 minutes later from an attorney in NY giving us details of how we can “spring” the kid out of jail.  Of course it meant sending $$ to him. I knew it was a scam pretty quickly as I have read about the “grandparents scam”.  So, for all the grandparents in Charbonneau take warning.

Mick
The scammers claiming a broken nose and therefore sounding nasally, did explain the change of voice.  However, Mick stated that they know their Grandson and know that he would never go on a lark trip to NY for just his friends wedding and so they called him immediately and of course he was at work.
Bottom line is always good to check the facts of any phone calls you receive
