New energy efficient lights installed

Image result for led light bulbs

Please note that CHOA has replaced all of the Common Area outside lighting on your homes (normally front and back) with new low energy LED light bulbs.  In addition to saving 50% on the cost of the LED bulbs due to a program by the Energy Trust of Oregon, it is estimated that our neighbors will save a combined $9000 in electricity costs per year.  Nice work by Steve Chinn and his team here.

Please note that we now have a lot of old light bulbs that we are not sure what to do with.  Any ideas?

Please join CHOA for the Grand Opening of the new CHOA PUTTING GREEN Monday, August 20th at 6:00 to 7:30 pm

There will be cookies and punch along with a putting contest.  Come and test your putting skills against your neighbors!  You might even win a prize!  Please remember to bring your Putter if you want to enter this contest.

Please note that there is limited parking in the area.  Please plan to drive your golf cart, walk (on the sidewalks/roads, not the golf course) or park over in the Villages parking lot.  We will have a shuttle golf cart to take you back and forth between the parking lot to the event.  The shuttle will run from 5:30 to 7:45 pm.

The CHOA Putting Green is located off Red 9 fairway and behind the Sacajawea Pool.

Hope to see you there!

CHOA Irrigation update

Please note with the unprecedented heat we have been having, Garron Grounds has been adjusting the irrigation schedule as needed to beat the heat and keep our community green.  The high volume of usage also brings other problems with equipment failures which we are correcting as soon as discovered.

Garron is currently watering twice a day – the times may change as needs change – and while not normally watering on the day before,  and day of – mowing, if temperatures demand, they will moisten the ground after mowing.

Garron is monitoring the area daily but we appreciate your help by letting us know if you see an area becoming too dry or being over watered. Call Steve Chinn 503-682-0234 or Karen Siegel 503-694-2692 and they will work with Garron to correct problems as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Is your House Electrical Panel Safe?

Please note that one of our neighbors had an issue with their electrical panel and we wanted you to be aware in case you are in this situation also.    It appears to apply to Charbonneau homes that have not been significantly renovated.

Here is the note:  “We are having some electrical work done and the electrician pointed out that our electrical panel is on a Federal recall list and a safety and fire hazard.  The panel was made by the now-defunct Federal Pacific. An article about its panels is attached”. (see link below).

“We are having our panel replaced in the coming week.  The cost is $1845 which could be a surprise and burden for some residents.  In any case, I thought you should know, if you didn’t already”.

These Federal Pacific electrical panels are the same ones we replaced at the CHOA pools last year.

CHOA Welcomes Lady Bugs

Please note that Garron Grounds will again be placing Lady Bugs in the large leaf Maples and Linden trees for aphid control.   The “ladies” can eat up to 50 aphids a day and are a safe and natural method for aphid control.

The lady bugs are placed in the trees in the evening hours in small bags.  They move out of the bags into their new homes where the food supply is plentiful.   So if you see the little bags in the trees please don’t remove them.

CHOA Board looking for new Board and Committee Members- Correction

Ty- thanks for your great service to the Board.

There is an Alligator in my pool (and now ants)

The Ducks have decided that some of our pools are new ponds for them to play in.  Ducks are fun, except when they leave reminders of their visit.

To help keep the pools clean of “debris” we  recently purchased an Articulating Alligator to see if this device would discourage the ducks.  The pool we chose to trial the alligator in was F&G pool.  Unfortunately, the Alligator was viewed as a toy and ended up in pieces in the surrounding yard.

Karen Siegel was able to reassemble the Alligator so that we can continue to use it.

Please if you see the Alligator in your pool, it is not a toy.

I know that for some the Alligator can be a temptation.  If you need to, you can remove the Alligator device while you are in the pool.  Ducks don’t usually land when people are present.  Just remember to put the Alligator back in before you leave.

Thanks for your help.

While we’re on the subject of keeping our pools clean………

Remember, there is no eating in the pool area.

We do have a service that helps keep our pools clean and usable.  That said, food debris attracts ants and other wildlife.  In addition to the regular pool cleaning service paid for out of your HOA dues, treatment for ants is an extra cost that should not be needed if food is only consumed in areas outside of the pool.
